Jimmy move to Gloucester in 1977 and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1983. He came to work for Mike’s Tire & Automotive part time at the age of 16 and has worked here throughout his carrier while working for Quinn Motor from 1983-1989 and NASA Langley from 1989-2003 and attending Thomas Nelson Community College and numerous Automotive Schools. He left NASA in 2003 to become a partner at Mike’s Tire & Automotive.
As an avid volunteer, he coached Gloucester Wrestling for 26 years. He volunteered many Friday nights at the bingo hall in Yorktown to raise money to build the current wrestling facility at Gloucester High School. He is also a member of Providence Baptist Church. Jimmy is married to the former Michele Faison and they have a daughter Chelsea and a son Tyler. In his spare time he likes to be with his family by fishing, hunting, camping and building custom trucks and mud racing with his son.
SALES AND ADMINISTRATION
Patty moved to Gloucester in 1977. A graduate of Ferguson High School, she attended Rappahannock Community College studying banking and accounting. She began working as a bookkeeper for Mike’s Tire and Automotive in 1984. With the completion of Mike’s Tire and Automotive’s new building in 1993, Patty started working at the sales counter. Patty has handled accounting, billing and sales for Mike’s Tire and Automotive while also serving the community primarily as a Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, CPR Instructor and First Aid Instructor with the American Red Cross.
From North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Bob attended East Carolina University. He worked as a chemist in the late 60’s and then crossed over to the automotive field in the early 70’s. During his many years in the Automotive Industry, he has worked as a Certified Technician, Shop Foreman, Senior Director before opening his own shop in 1985. After several years of retirement, Bob returned to the automotive industry as a valued member of the Mike’s Tire and Automotive Service Team.
A resident of Gloucester since 2008, Don comes to Mike’s Tire and Automotive with over 30 years of experience as a tire technician. Don specializes in tire repair, where his many years of practice and training allow him to complete industry-standard-exceeding repairs quickly and efficiently. Don also serves as Mike’s Tire and Automotive tire pressure sensor specialist, trained in the maintenance and calibration of today’s advanced sensors.
Pete has a long connection with the automobile industry. He has been a service manager and shop foreman for a large shop in Denbigh and a sales representative with Casey Imports. In 1992 Pete moved to Gloucester and has been a lead Technician specializing in HVAC, driveability and electrical systems for the last 20 years. He also had extensive experience with MODIS Diagnostic Equipment. Pete joined the Mike’s Tire and Automotive Service Team in the spring of 2012.
Tyler is a Gloucester native and a graduate of Gloucester County High School. He is currently attending Tidewater Community College School of Automotive, studying Diesel technology. Tyler received the Ford Motor Company and AAA student Auto Skills award and the Auto challenge hands on. He was Auto Technician of the year as a senior. He became a Virginia State Inspector while still in high school.
Tyler was a wrestler and soccer player from youth to high school. He was a youth wrestling coach and received Peninsula Youth Wrestling League referee of the year in 2009. He is a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Tyler enjoys boating, fishing, hunting and building custom vehicles with his father and friends. He also runs “littl’ somthin” a custom jeep mud bogger.
New personnel join Mike’s Tire
Mike’s Tire and Automotive, Ordinary, recently added new personnel and new lineup of services for customers.
According to Jimmy Guy, owner of the business, the company has added three new service people, which will allow them to perform a full line of diesel work as well as transmission rebuilds and service.
John Shelton, who was the lead technician at Williamsburg Dodge for 15 years, is one of the new employees. Also, Randy Greene, who has over a decade of experience with a local dealership, has been added at the sales desk. Finally, James Kosloske was added as a diagnostic technician.
Mike’s Tire has been serving the community since 1954. Guy took over the business from longtime former owner, the late Monty Haskell following Haskell’s death in 2013. Guy began his career there in 1980 when he was 16 years old.
“We’ve grown continually since that time,” Guy said, “and we’re firmly established in the community.”
Guy said the business offers a full line of service for both domestic and foreign makes and models. He also said all of his service technicians take part in continuing education through Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton.
