On what was perhaps the most fitting day, on July 25, Jimmy Guy took over full ownership of Mike’s Tire and Automotive, where he has worked since 1980 and has served as Vice President since 2003.
Guy officially purchased the business from Beth Haskell, widow of Monty Haskell who owned the shop from 1976 until his death on Sept. 20, 2013. Monty’s birthday would have been July 25.
“Our goal is to continue the traditions that we have fostered over the years at Mike’s,” Guy said. “We have always prided ourselves on providing great service to our customers and their vehicles. We have a great customer base with some going back to before my time here. We’re looking forward to continuing a great relationship with them, and seeing some new faces.”
Mike’s Tire and Automotive was founded in 1954. Guy began his career there as a part time associate in 1980 when he was just 16. He remained part time for more than two decades.
Guy came on full time in 2003 when he was approached by then owner Monty about becoming a partner in the business.
For much of the shop’s history, the focus was on serving the community by offering the best brands in tires and alignments.
In 1994, Mike’s Tire and Automotive, which carries Michelin®, BFGoodrich®, Uniroyal® and Toyo tires, branched more heavily into enhanced automotive services.
Today, Mike’s Tire and Automotive proudly features some of the highest rated technicians in the region, an import vehicle specialist and state of the art equipment. Services include alignments, brake service and repair, computer diagnostics, suspension, shocks and struts, oil changes, scheduled maintenance and state inspections. Mike’s Tire and Automotive also offers a shuttle service.
For Guy, the opportunity to continue the Mike’s Tire and Automotive legacy will be a family affair. Guy’s son, Tyler is among the team of technicians and his wife, Michele, and mother-in-law, Penny Williams, remain part of the office and administrative staff.
